🚀 Empowering Businesses and Communities with AI: My Latest Research

Hi everyone,

I’m Tlokotsi Potloane, and I’m excited to share some incredible work I’ve been doing as part of my AI Certificate Program at Lerotholi Polytechnic, under the Samsung Innovation Campus. My research explores how AI can help businesses and public-sector organizations in Lesotho — and across Southern Africa — become more efficient, transparent, and future-proof.

🌟 Why I Started This Journey

Over the past few years, I’ve helped local businesses with a bunch of different tasks — registering companies, filing tax returns, generating invoices, creating marketing materials, setting up IT and cloud services — you name it. Throughout this hands-on work, one thing became very clear:

Manual processes and outdated tools cause delays, errors, and frustration.

That’s what led me to this research. What if AI could do most of the heavy lifting? What if we could ensure documents like IDs, licenses, and certificates are always authentic and verifiable? What if businesses could cut down on human error and fraud?

🤖 What My AI Platform Aims to Do

Here’s the big picture of what I’m working on:

✅ Biometric Authentication: Use fingerprint and facial recognition to verify people quickly and securely.
✅ API Interoperability: Let different systems — tax offices, banks, schools, and more — talk to each other seamlessly and securely.
✅ Document Microservice: Scan, upload, and store important docs — all logged on a private blockchain so they can’t be tampered with.
✅ Business Automation: Automate company registration, tax filing, procurement, HR management, marketing collateral, logistics, finance, IT support, and much more.

🤝 Supporting HR and Procurement Processes

One part I’m especially excited about is making HR and tender processes smarter and fairer.
With AI and blockchain, we can:

✅ Rank CVs and applicants by skill, experience, and fit.
✅ Score tenders for value, compliance, and past performance.
✅ Keep everything transparent so there’s an audit trail that can’t be manipulated.

This kind of automation can help eliminate bias and reduce errors that often happen in manual processes.

💸 Big Financial Impact

With manual paperwork, a typical business might spend M17,000/month (~M204,000/year) per company on administrative tasks. But by automating most of those processes with AI, that number drops to about M3,200/month (~M38,400/year) — an 81% savings per business!

If we scale this up to 500 businesses across Lesotho, that’s a whopping M82.8 million per year saved. That’s money that can go back into communities, new jobs, innovation, and local development.

🌍 Why It Matters

This AI-driven solution isn’t just about making companies more efficient — it’s about building trust. Trust that data is authentic, processes are fair, and people can access vital services without endless paperwork and long waits.

By using technologies like biometrics, blockchain, and document authenticity microservices, we make sure data is transparent, traceable, and safe forever — archived at dedicated local data centers for compliance and long-term access.

As someone who believes in the potential of Lesotho and Southern Africa, my mission is to help organizations:

This research is my first big step toward that future.
